    4,800 units is the estimate by Power Systems Research of the number of Trenchers expected to be produced in North America in 2024.

    Trenchers, typically wheeled or chain, are used in a variety of applications; these machines are quite diversified for various markets having a wide range of clients. Trenchers are more precise at digging as opposed to excavators that are popular machinery for construction needs.

    281,000 units is the estimate by Power Systems Research of the number of ATVs expected to be produced in North America in 2024.

    ATV is short term for All Terrain Vehicle. This vehicle commonly has four wheels and is designed to be driven off road. It seats one person, or sometimes two, one in front of the other. ATVs are utilized in a variety of activities that include recreation, sport and military related needs.

  • Q4 2023 Power Systems Research Truck Production Index (PSR-TPI) Climbs 8.4%

    St. Paul, Minnesota, USA— The Power Systems Research Truck Production Index (PSR-TPI) increased from 107 to 116, or 8.4% for the 12 months ended Dec. 31, 2023. For the fourth quarter of 2023, ending Dec. 31, 2023, the index increased from 112 to 116, or 3.6%, compared to Q3 2023.

    The PSR-TPI is a quarterly truck production report that measures global truck production across six regions: North America, China, Europe, South America, Japan & Korea and Emerging Markets. This data comes from OE Link™, the proprietary database maintained by Power Systems Research.

    The next update of the Power Systems Research TPI will be in April 2024 and will reflect changes in the TPI during Q1 2024. PSR

    St. Paul, Minnesota, USA— The Power Systems Research Truck Production Index (PSR-TPI) increased from 107 to 116, or 8.4% for the 12 months ended Dec. 31, 2023. For the fourth quarter of 2023, ending Dec. 31, 2023, the index increased from 112 to 116, or 3.6%, compared to Q3 2023.

    South America. Medium and heavy commercial vehicle production is expected to increase by 22.1% this year after a significant decline in 2023 primarily driven by a weaker economy and the implementation of the Proconve 8 emission regulations in Brazil last year.

    The PSR-TPI is a quarterly truck production report that measures global truck production in six regions: North America, China, Europe, South America, Japan & Korea and Emerging Markets.

    This data comes from OE Link™, the proprietary database maintained by Power Systems Research.

  • Cathode Material Developed for Cheaper EVs

    Researchers at the U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE) Argonne National Laboratory have invented and patented a new cathode material that replaces lithium ions with sodium and that would be significantly cheaper to produce. The cathode is one of the main parts of any battery. It is the site of the chemical reaction that creates the flow of electricity that propels a vehicle.  Estimates suggest that a sodium-ion battery would cost one-third less than a lithium-ion one.

    PSR Analysis: Research in battery technology has developed at a tremendous pace and anything that reduces cost  and is more sustainable is a plus. Sodium is far more naturally abundant and easily mined than lithium. It is thus a fraction of the cost per kilogram and much less susceptible to price fluctuations or disruptions in the supply chain.   PSR
