  • Kohler Engines Introduces Small Diesel

    Kohler Engines has introduced a new series of small diesel engines: the KSD.  At launch three models will be available:

    • KSD 1403NA (Naturally aspirated)
    • KSD 1403TC (Turbocharged)
    • KSD 1403TCA (Turbocharged with aftercooler)

    Later on, more variants will be released, completing further the series.  Developed as a new electronic engine, this platform is capable of meeting all current emissions legislations, globally.  All engines sit in the critical below 19 kW power node, and with 1.4L is a compact solution that can fit different applications.

    One key aspect of the engine is the specific blend between indirect injection and electronic control.  According to Kohler, this enables maximum engine performance, response and very low-end torque.

  • BMW Starts Production of CE 04 EV Motorbike

    The CE 04 falls somewhere between a maxiscooter and a light electric motorcycle, with a distinguished concept style.  Initially, the rated power will be 42 Hp, giving the CE 04 a 2.6 seconds to 50km/h and 120 km/h max speed.   A second model will be soon available with 31 Hp, with slower acceleration but similar top speed.

    Acceleration won’t be the only difference.  The battery in the faster model will be bigger, with 8.9 kWh of capacity and is rated for up to 130 km (81 miles) of range. The reduced power model has a maximum range of 100 km (62 miles).  It will be possible to charge the bike under different circumstances, at home, or public places.  Two built-in chargers will be available, ranging from 2.3 kW to 6.9 kw.  Charging will take from 1 hour and forty minutes to 4 hours depending on the selected option.  BMW said that 20 to 80% battery charge will take 45 minutes, making this a very practical vehicle.

  • CNH Acquires Sampierana SPA

    CNH Industrial has purchased Sampierana S.p.A. an Italian construction equipment and components manufacturer.  The deal totals €101.8 million and will allow CNH to control 100% of Sampierana within the next four years.

    “This latest strategic acquisition will further accelerate the profitable growth of our construction equipment business. Sampierana’s exceptional portfolio solidifies our presence in critical market segments and provides our dealers and customers access to industry-leading products backed by our brand, distribution, and manufacturing experience,” said Scott Wine, Chief Executive Officer of CNH Industrial.

  • Mercedes Grows in EV Bus Market

    While smaller players are struggling to remain competitive in the EV bus space, Mercedes-Benz is targeting more clients and more volumes. 

    Mercedes-Benz has handed over one eCitaro G electric articulated bus with solid-state batteries each to Hamburger Hochbahn and Verkehrsbetriebe Hamburg-Holstein.  The two new electric articulated buses each have seven battery packs with solid electrolyte and an energy content of 441 kWh, allowing up to 200km range, depending on operational conditions.

  • European EV Buses Under Pressure

    After three years, Alstom is halting their EV bus production.  By the end of 2021, the production lines will be stopped, and unless a buyer will take over, most of the operations will be shut down.  Twenty employees will remain active to assure maintenance for the existing vehicles in operations with RATP. 

    Just two years ago, Alstom was one of the winners of a contract to supply electric buses to the French operator.  However, this was not enough to maintain profitability.

  • Magni, Bobcat Reach New Heights

    Magni TH, an Italian manufacturer of material handling equipment, has signed an agreement with Bobcat to supply a range of rotating telehandlers (RTH) between 18 and 39 meters. 

    The new machines will be produced in Italy, by Magni TH, with the Bobcat branding and stage V engines.  In order to achieve demand Magni has already developed a new facility, allowing the company to produce 3500 rotating telehandlers per year, once at full capacity.  This agreement will allow Magni to grow significantly according to their president and founder, Riccardo Magni.

  • Scania Creates Bridge To EU 2030 Emissions Targets

    Scania, a Swedish truck manufacturer, is developing an 18-meter long solar cell-clad trailer that will be able to generate energy from devices along 140m2 of surface area on the sides and roof. 

    According to the truck manufacturer, the powered trailer will be able to generate fuel saving between 5% and 10% in northern Europe, and up to double that in sunny regions like Spain.  The tests are also validating the use of the trailers as power stations to feed the main grid, once they have completed charging the batteries and the vehicle is stationary.
