Segway’s First Robotic Lawnmower Uses GPS To Stay in Your Yard

Since building a brand on self-balancing personal transportation devices, Segway has expanded its consumer product range to include e-scooters, go-karts and now, autonomous mowers

The Segway Navimow is like a Roomba for your lawn, except it’s different than most other robotic vacuums and mowers currently sold in one key way. Reports say that instead of requiring installation of a physical or a virtual boundary, the device uses GPS to stay on “precise position and systematic mowing patterns.” 

Users define the boundary and any no-go areas on a smartphone app, and the Navimow will maintain accuracy down to two centimeters. In the event of a weak GPS signal, the Navimow has sensors to keep it chugging along. The Navimow can move up a 45-degree incline. And because the motor is electric, it emits 54 db of noise—far less than a gas-powered lawn mower.  PSR

KAMAZ Increases Nine-Month Production 21%

KAMAZ has significantly increased production for the first nine months of 2021 versus the same period last year. Through September, the OEM produced 30,979 vehicles, up  21% from the same period in 2020, reports the company.

In September, KAMAZ made 4,067 vehicles (versus 3,676 vehicles in September 2020.

Chip Shortages Cause Worst Festive Season in Decade for Auto Industry

2021’s festive period from Navratri to Diwali (October) marked the worst performance for India automakers in nearly a decade. Usually, sales of PVs peak during the period, however, the demand was much lower this year. 

Further, two-wheeler and tractor sales dropped by about 10%. The major reason for this drop is supply-side challenges on semiconductors and lack of demand in entry-level segments for both PVs and two-wheelers.

In the commercial vehicles space, the situation was somewhat better with an increase in demand for interstate movement of goods.

GAZ Group May Start Mass Production of Hydrogen Engines in 2.5 Years

This report comes from General Director of GAZ Power Aggregate division Konstantin Rukhani. “After 18 months we shall complete the tests, after about 2.5 years, we’ll come to mass conveyor production,” he told Ruhani. He added that the design of the new hydrogen engine will be similar to its gas reciprocating engine.

“We consider that at the moment, if we come to the strategy of use gas piston engine working on hydrogen, we can get vehicle with a price of 30-34% higher than current ones. The engine will be less demanding for the purity of hydrogen fuel,” he added.

Cabinet Okays Rs 76,000-cr Semiconductor Plan

The India Cabinet has cleared a Rs 76,000-cr incentive plan for semiconductors that will set up more than 20 semiconductor design, components manufacturing and display fabrication units over the next six years.

A specialized and independent “India Semiconductor Mission (ISM)” was launched Dec. 29, 2021, to drive the long-term strategies for developing a sustainable semiconductor and display ecosystem in India. The ISM will act as the nodal agency for efficient and smooth implementation of the schemes on semiconductors and display ecosystem.
