SUMMARY: Gen-set sales experienced a sharp increase in Q3
2017 with overall sales up 21.8% over Q2 2017 levels due to demand from
hurricanes Harvey and Irma. This
increase follows Q2 2017 where dealer reported sales were up 1.8% relative to
Q1 2017 levels.
Construction Equipment Internal Sales in Brazil from January thru May grew 35% over the same period of 2019. The Brazilian Machinery Builders´ Association (ABIMAQ) expects 2020 sales to hit 20,000 machines, 15% more than in 2019.
PSR Analysis: The Construction segment was the less affected by the pandemic than some other segments. The interest reduction directed investment to real state, especially housing, and some measures, such as the new regulation for sanitation, recently approved by the parliament, will boost the Construction business in 2020 and more significantly in the coming years. The year 2020 started very well for pleasure boat builders across the Europe but it was battered in mid-year by COVID-19. The Dusseldorf trade show, Boot, held at the end of January, ended with a positive outlook and promising results for 2020. Order books were full, thanks to the great boating mood created in previous years.
The unexpected and violent Covid-19 storm came up in March. Nobody was prepared to face the challenge. Builders had to stop production or to reduce their capacities to a minimum during April and May. Production schedules had to be reorganized according to security measures imposed by the local governments.
TheM&T Expo 2022 is one of the most important trade fairs in the construction and mining equipment industry throughout Latin America and this year the show featured more than 600 exhibiting brands in 54,000 square meters. Held in Sao Paulo Aug. 30-Sept. 2, 2022, the event had more than 30,000 visits in four days.
Disagreements between show organizers and exhibitors caused key players in the market to avoid the show. The list of missing exhibitors included Caterpillar, John Deere, Komatsu, JCB, CNH, and Volvo. Chinese companies, as well as Liebherr, took this opportunity to use large spaces at the event, both in area and in product portfolio with respective sales and engineering teams.

SUMMARY: Gen-set sales in Q1 2020 fell 9.8% from Q4 2019, as the United States faces perhaps its most serious economic and public health crisis since the Great Depression. No power range was immune to the decline.
Sales in the 51-100kW range dropped 13%, the largest drop of any range, while the 101-300kW range faired the best, only shedding 6.5% of sales from Q4 2019.
The losses were felt fairly evenly across applications, with temporary power falling the least at 7%, and standbys the most at 10%. Looking by customer type, commercial sales had their worst first quarter in at least the last five years, falling by 9.5%.
Yosyf Sheremeta, PhD, Director of Product Management and Customer Experience, takes a look at what’s in store for the industry segments we follow for the rest of 2021 and beyond.

From Power Systems Research I’m Joe Delmont, editor of PSR PowerTALK.
Today we’ll talk with Yosyf Sheremeta about the economic outlook for North America.
Market Overview. The global UTV/ATV market size was US$ 8.66 billion in 2021, with a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 6.13%. PSR forecasts the global market to grow to US$ 11.67 billion by 2026
The North American UTV/ATV market was valued at US$ 6.66 billion in 2021, and it is expected to reach US$ 8.50 billion in 2026, registering a CAGR of about 5.00% during the forecast period (2022 – 2026).
Applications. UTVs/ATVs were originally associated with sports and recreational activities. Application of these vehicles has diversified, and they are now being used in the agricultural sector and for patrolling, hunting, gardening, and other activities.
A recent application is the United States Army. The military has shown interest in acquiring UTVs/ATVs with features such as rapid transportation, the ability to carry nine fully armed soldiers, agility, and a minimum of 55 mph.
SUMMARY. As we are halfway through 2023, there is more uncertainty with the economy than earlier in the year. The general consensus is there will be a recession coming soon in the United States, and now it is just a matter of whether this will happen later in 2023 or the first of part of 2024.
The latter may be more assumed recently. The stock market has not fallen, and the US economy has not entered a recession this year, 2023. Some of the factors that have prevented this are market investors being enthusiastic over AI (Artificial Intelligence) potential, the Federal Reserve’s pause in interest rate increases, and the slowdown of inflation. So seemingly the pause button has been hit on recession scenarios.
