Joe Zirnhelt
Joe Zirnhelt

SUMMARY: Our PowerTrackerTM dealer and distributor survey of 200 respondents reported that gen-set sales recovered some momentum in Q3 2020 up 11.9% from Q2 2020 levels.  This increase follows a slow start to the year in Q1 2020 where overall dealer reported sales were down 9.8% from Q4 2019 levels and Q2 2020 where we observed a quarterly increase of 4.5% over the low Q1 2020 levels.

The only part of the market that seemingly did not recover in Q3 2020 was the diesel <20 kW with -8.3% for <10 kW and -3.6% for 10-20 kW.  The remainder of diesel (>20 kW) had single digit quarterly increases across the power ranges.  The gaseous fueled gen-sets had the most significant rebound this quarter with all power ranges up to 500 kW with a greater than 10% quarterly change – helping to offset the weak first half of 2020 as concerns and shutdowns ensued over COVID-19.

Agri Week 2022 Report: Drones Become Popular

FAR EAST: JAPAN REPORT
Akihiro Komuro
Akihiro Komuro

Agri Week 2022 is a comprehensive exhibition on agriculture, livestock, and horticulture. It is held twice a year in Kyushu and Kanto. Agricultural materials, smart agriculture products, livestock materials, and products related to industrialization are exhibited. Agriculture Week consists of the following four exhibitions: AGRI TECH (Material & Technology), AGRI NEXT (Next Generation), AGRI PROCESS (Farmer‘s Processing), LIVESTOCK (Livestock Supply & Equipment)

Source: Official HP

PSR Analysis: The drone market is seeing an increase in the number of new entrants. Currently, the market size is estimated to be around 300 billion yen, but some say it will grow to nearly 800 billion yen in five years. This is because the revision of the Civil Aeronautics Law to be implemented this December will lift the ban on Level 4 unassisted visual flights in manned areas. Until now this has been limited to Level 3 unmanned areas. Currently, the use of drones is mainly for spraying chemicals, but it is also being considered for logistics, inspections, civil engineering, and construction.

INDIA REPORT, March 2020

Coronavirus Reduces India Auto Components

This article first appeared in the March 2020 issue of PowerTALK™ News

China is one of the leading suppliers of auto components to India, and this supply chain was significantly interrupted in Q1 2020 by the caronavirus. In 2018-19, components worth an estimated US$4.5 billion (out of a total of approximately $17 billion) were exported from China to India. Most of this trade is in electronic components, EGR modules, fuel injection pumps, turbochargers, meter sets, LEDs, magnets, airbag components, and steering system components.

Since the discovery of the Coronavirus in December 2019, this supply chain has been affected. The covid-19 pandemic has started taking a toll on components supply and automotive production in India. The situation is further amplified, as China has terminated all sea routes to other parts of the world.

This is the first joint project with a game engine developer in the construction equipment industry, which is rare in the global construction equipment industry.

The game engine is regarded as very useful in various industries such as shipbuilding, logistics and construction. Doosan Infracore and Unity will work together to develop a simulator. It realizes various physical elements on a construction site where excavators and other equipment operate in a virtual environment. The simulator will be very useful in accurately predicting complex variables that may occur on a real construction site.

Coronavirus Jeopardizes Brazil AG Machine Production

Lack of components coming from China may be a problem because of work interruptions caused by the coronavirus. According to the Brazilian Machinery Builders´ Association (ABIMAQ), the risk of supply stoppages is high. The Chinese content of an Agricultural Machine produced in Brazil is estimated to be 10% to 15%, with higher concentration on electronics components.

PSR Analysis: This is an opportunity for local and international players to start
supplying these companies as an alternative source. The time window is short for
development of alternative sources, but global companies may start risk mitigation
plans. Understanding the opportunities, volumes and component content will be
key at this moment.

Production of Cars in Peru Drops 54% in One Year

The combination of market decline by 31% and the increase of vehicle imports
are the main reasons for the drastic reduction in production. From 2010 to
2015, the local production has been above the imports, with significant exports
to neighbor countries as Colombia and Peru. From 2016 – 2018, imports grew
from 31,000 to 103,000 units, while the production grew from 29,000 to 42,000
between 2016 and 2017, after a significant market growth, but reduced from
42,000 to 18,000 in 2019 with the competition from imports.
