MOSCOW–October in Russia has seen increasing restrictions related to the COVID quarantine placed on trade shows. Most shows which normally would be held at this time, have been cancelled or shifted to 2021.

Fairs such as “Busworld” and “Interauto” will not take place this year. However, some events have been included on a so called “exception list,” or official list of trade shows and congresses, planned to be conducted in here from Oct. 20, 2020, to 30 Nov. 30, 2020. Among these events are Mining World and the Heat and Power trade show, held Oct. 27 – 29 in the Crocus Expo Center here.

The show itself was very small this year. There were 49 participants from seven countries. The number of companies, showing engines and power machines was even smaller. However, there were some interesting exhibitors. Among them – MWM, MAN, MTU Rus, Tedom, local maker of diesel compressors KKZ

Most interesting information came from JV KAMAZ and Weichai. This year, they’ve started local assembly of diesel and gas engines of up to 1000 kWt power. Three full-size engines were shown at the fair.

The assembly of 6, 12 and 16 cylinder engines up to 65 liter volume is done at the Tutaev Motor plant. Currently, all the components come from China. However, the OEM is planning local production of these units. The production forecast calls for about 200 engines this year with expansion up to 1000 engines in five years.

The engines are planned to supply power generation for railway, marine and industrial segments.

The fair has been reduced in size because of COVID-19 and hardly reaches 2000 sq. meters. However, it managed to keep its main exhibitors and has a good chance to be continued after the pandemic restrictions end. PSR
