St. Paul, MN (April 13, 2021)— The Power Systems Research Truck Production Index (PSR-TPI) dropped 42.5% for the three-month period ended March 31, 2021, declining from 186 to 107, from the fourth quarter of 2020. The year-over-year (Q1 2020 to Q1 2021) improvement for the PSR-TPI was 15%, in which it climbed from 93 to 107.

The PSR-TPI measures truck production globally and across six regions: North America, China, Europe, South America, Japan & Korea and Emerging Markets.

Global Index. While the decline in commercial vehicle demand in China will lower global vehicle demand this year, improved demand is expected in all other regions.

All Regions. Except for China, demand for medium and heavy commercial vehicles has bottomed out and is expected to increase this year and into 2022 as the various economies improve and Coronavirus vaccinations increase.  The market will also experience periodic supply chain disruptions primarily due to the impact from the Coronavirus.

St. Paul, MN— The Power Systems Research Truck Production Index (PSR-TPI) dropped from 124 to 112, or 9.7%, for the three-month period ended Sept. 30, 2018, from Q2 2018. The year-over-year (Q3 2017 to  Q3 2018) gain for the PSR-TPI was, 110 to 112, or 1.8%.

St. Paul, MN (Janaury 23, 2023)— The Power Systems Research Truck Production Index (PSR-TPI) increased from 101 to 105, or 3.7%, for the three-month period ended Dec. 31, 2022, from Q3 2022. The year-over-year (Q4 2021 through Q4 2022) loss for the PSR-TPI was, 122 to 105, or -13.2%.

St. Paul, MN (July 22, 2020)— Global truck production was battered by the COVID-19 in Q2 2020, and this decline is reflected in the Q2 2020 Power Systems Research Truck Production Index (PSR-TPI). The TPI plummeted from 80 to 34, or 57.5%, for the three-month period ended June 30, 2020, compared to Q1 2020. The year-over-year (Q2 2019 to Q2 2020) loss for the PSR-TPI was, 131 to 34, or 74%.

The outlook for global truck production in the class 4-8 looks very promising for 2018 as it continues a strong growth pattern established in 2017. Even previously struggling countries such as Russia, Brazil and Turkey saw very positive signs in 2017 and are looking for continued growth this year.  North America and Europe also are expected to have a good year in 2018.

St. Paul, MN (April 15, 2024)— The Power Systems Research Truck Production Index (PSR-TPI) decreased from 116 to 111, or 4.5%, for the three-month period ending March 31, 2024, from Q4 2023. The year-over-year (Q1 2023 – Q1 2024) PSR-TPI was flat at 111. There was no change.

The PSR-TPI measures truck production globally and across six regions: North America, China, Europe, South America, Japan & Korea and Emerging Markets.

All Regions. In 2024, Medium and heavy commercial vehicle production in Europe, South Asia and North America is expected to decline modestly while production in China, South America, Japan, and Korea is expected to improve over last year.

Global Index. Globally, medium, and heavy commercial vehicle production is expected to decline by 1.5% this year over 2023. Moving into 2024, much of the focus on demand will be centered around slowing global economic conditions that will impact overall freight demand. PSR
