Survey: EV Range Anxiety Slips in Importance

Euromonitor International has released the results of its Electric Vehicle Readiness Index for 2023 survey, which evaluates the most prepared countries which can support widespread EV adoption.

Norway, Switzerland and Sweden ranked at the top of the index, due to EV market maturity and consumer buying power. Brazil, South Africa and India were ranked at the bottom, owing to limited government incentives, low incomes and the undersupply of public charging stations

Rolls-Royce Reports 16% Revenue Growth in 2023

Rolls Royce Power Systems Business Unit, based in Friedrichshafen, Germany, reported sales of EUR 4.56 billion in fiscal 2023, a 16% increase over 2022. Operating profit hit 10.2%, up from 8.4% in 2022.

The operating profit increase is due to the investments in transformation and process optimization, implementation of a new commercial policy, better cost, and stock management.

Strong demand for standby power generation especially for data centers, implementation of the “From bridge to the propeller” strategy for large yachts, and development of an energy storage systems in Europe integrating renewable energies into the Duch public grid have contributed significantly to the revenue growth.

South American Truck Production Index Climbs 3.4%

April 16, 2024— The Power Systems Research South America Truck Production Index (PSR-TPI) increased from 88 to 91, or 3.4%, for the three-month period ending March 31, 2024 (Q1 2024), from Q4 2023. The year-over-year (Q1 2023 – Q1 2024) PSR-TPI increased  from 75 to 91, or 21.3%.

The PSR-TPI measures truck production globally and across six regions: North America, China, Europe, South America, Japan & Korea and Emerging Markets. The South America TPI measures truck production in Brazil, Argentina and Columbia.

Brussels, Belgium – After weeks of uncertainty and, finally, a bankruptcy, bus and trailer manufacturer Van Hool can look to the future again.  The company trustee has accepted the bid from the competitor VDL – Schmitz-Cargobull.  This move was seen by the trustee as the quickest and most efficient way to restart the operations without losing additional company value, and important resources.

CATL, Yutong Launch Long-life EV Battery

CATL has launched a battery pack with Yutong Bus Co to power commercial vehicles like buses and trucks. Yutong said the new battery packs will be used in upcoming electric vehicles and that the new long-lasting EV battery has zero degradation through the first 1,000 cycles.

The new EV battery pack, made with CATL, has a 932,000 mile (1.5 million km), 15-year warranty. Yutong calls the long-life battery an industry first. The bus manufacturer introduced another battery with a 10-year and 621,000 mile (1 million km) lifespan.
