Olivia Funk, a senior at Eastview High School, Eagan, Minnesota, is the recipient of the 2019 Power Systems Research $2,500 academic scholarship.

Funk will use the scholarship to study Marine Biology at San Diego State University.

“My favorite subject is math,” says Funk. “I have had many great teachers that challenged me to learn as much as I could. The challenge of solving problems is rewarding.”

Her favorite high school memory? Walking into her Zoos, Aquariums, and Small Animal Care class for the first time. “I remember seeing the cats roaming around the classroom and cages along the walls,” she says. “I loved that the classroom was immersed in animals and unlike any other class. “

She enjoys golf, playing the flute and solving jigsaw puzzles. And, of course, she loves spending time at the ocean.

Power Systems Research has been supporting high school science and engineering programs for many years.

One of programs it funds is the Experimental Vehicle Team at St. Thomas Academy in suburban St. Paul, MN. The school successfully competes in international competitions with high schools and universities to build the most energy efficient vehicles. PSR
